About Us

Cornerstone Ministries is an independent Christian church affiliated with the Calvary Chapel Association. Cornerstone Ministries is a community of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are a church family who are on Jesus’ Mission in the Napa Valley. To that end we have established the goals of Reach Out, Equip, Mobilize and Support.

How We Started

In March of 1991, Pastor Bill was contacted and asked about starting a new church in Napa. After many weekend trips, a family vacation in July of 1991, and much prayer, the decision was made for Pastor Bill to leave his position as an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, Ca and move to Napa to start the new church.

Cornerstone started in September of 1991, and our first Sunday morning service was held on October 6th in the Walden’s living room; children’s ministry was in one of the bedrooms. Those were challenging and exciting days.

Over the years, the church has grown numerically and spiritually. The Children’s Ministry has moved from a spare bedroom into several well-equipped classrooms. Ministries now exist for Middle and High School students, Families and Men & Women of all ages. But with the same emphasis on the simple basics of our faith: Relationship with God, Bible Study, Prayer, and Worship remain at the core of what Cornerstone has become and where it is going.

What We Believe

Jesus Christ – is the foundation and cornerstone of the church. He came to restore man’s broken relationship with God. His finished work on the cross made that possible. Because of His love demonstrated on the cross by dying for our sins, we now have reason to fellowship with one another and proclaim salvation through His life, death, and resurrection.

1 Corinthians 3:11, Ephesians 2:20, Romans 5:6-10

The Bible – is the inspired, infallible word of God and is relevant and applicable to man today. Therefore we place great emphasis upon teaching it in public, studying it in private and using it as a guide for our daily lives.

1 Timothy 4:13, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Worship – We believe God is worthy of all praise, reverence, and love. We take special time to worship Him in church through song. It is our goal to worship Him with our whole lives as well; at home, at work, and at play.

John 4:23, Romans 8:28, Ephesians 4:15

Christian Growth – Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed into His Image, likeness and example by the power of the Holy Spirit. We encourage this by abiding in Jesus Christ through His Word, Prayer and Fellowship, and by yielding our lives to the Holy Spirit who testifies of Jesus Christ.

John 15:5, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Peter 2:2

Love – is the greatest virtue and demonstration of the reality of Jesus Christ. We endeavor to show a Christ-like love to all men. Love should be exhibited in our lives by our words as well as our actions.

John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 13:13, Philippians 2:3-5

Christian Service – is a part of each Christian’s life and is a responsibility of all believers. It is merely an outward sign of the love they have come to known from God and born of a desire to bless that God. Our goal is to develop the ministry of every member to the benefit of all of the body.

Ephesians 4:11-13, Ephesians 2:10, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7
